Papa at the Crucifixion

Its been awhile since I've blogged. When I started we were in the middle of the sandwich of life...and getting squeezed! Since that time we slowly experienced the natural cycle of life and in a blink we lost the top layer. We lost Gran first, Jim's momma, to Alzheimers. About three years later Dad died of cancer...followed soon by Papa. We had mom for about seven or eight years before she died. Suddenly, we found ourselves in an unexpected place in life...the top layer. Mom died the day after her birthday and I retired in May...exhausted and sad. Jim retired a year later.

So here we are...top layer and blissfully retired.  When you retire...you begin to clean out...reorganize! While doing so...I discovered this gem! I had written this when Papa was alive. He was the source of some great stories!!! Enjoy...

Papa at the Crucifixion

You know the president gives a state of the union address once a year to update the country on the state of affairs...so I just thought I would give a similar report on Papa. I know you all are anxious to hear the state of his state! :) This morning during church he leaned over to me and in a loud "whisper" for all to hear he said... "I don't know if I ever told you this or not...but I was at the crucifixion."

Uh no...I'm pretty sure I would have remembered that. He nodded..."I was ...and I remember it like it was yesterday. Jesus looked me right in the eye and said, "Come to me all ye who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest"...and then here he goes into his one memorized scripture that he quotes with a great deal of pride during prayers or anytime there is an opening for it! It is my role, of course, to be impressed...but I was especially impressed to discover he was actually a witness to the crucifixion. I knew he was old...but... He ended by saying that was a long time ago. Well, I guess so!

He proceeded to tell the preacher the same story...with the same dramatic effect of quoting his scripture. Then again...in Cotton Patch... to a random person that stopped by the table to say hi. Jim never blinked an eye. Just sat stoned faced...either looking at the floor or just continuing to eat. I decided that might be the best thing for me too...however...I can't resist sneaking a look at the receiver of this revelation on occasion. It's just too fun! We act like...sure he was...we knew it all the time...interesting old man, isn't he?

He is feeling good...eating like a horse...and is going to be around for the second coming for sure. Anyway...I just thought you might like to know. I expect a call from the Today show any day now...and maybe Good Morning America...or perhaps the Pope! Who knows! Gosh, we didn't!
